“Is my child eligible for Cub Scouts?”
Boys and girls between the ages of Kindergarten and 5th grade are eligible to participate in Cub Scouts.
“What is the difference between a Pack and a Den?”
Den = A group of children in the same grade level or “rank”.
Pack = All enrolled Scouts, Kindergarten – 5th grade. (All dens combined!)”
“What will my child learn at Scouts?”
The goal of Scouting is to prepare children to make ethical and moral choices over the course of their lifetime.
This happens through activities that focus on:
- Outdoor Adventures & Life Skills
- Personal Safety
- Personal Fitness
- Citizenship
- Character & Leadership
- Faith & Reverence
“Can my child come to a meeting without joining the Pack?”
Yes! We welcome visitors at all points in the year for any of our den or pack meetings.
“Is there a cost associated with joining?”
Yes, there is a fee for joining Pack 486. Please reach out to us if you need financial assistance. We want all children who are interested in Scouting to have access to our program.
“Where and when do you meet?”
We meet weekly on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at King’s Park International Church, 1305 Odyssey Drive, Durham, NC 27713. CLICK HERE for our 2026-2027 calendar!
“Does my Scout need a uniform?”
Yes! Uniforms display Scout rank and earned adventure loops or pins.
You can shop online or in person at The Occoneechee Scout store (3231 Atlantic Ave, Raleigh, NC).
“Are volunteers vetted or trained?
Any parent or adult who would like to volunteer with our Pack should start by registering online. Financial assistance is available through the Pack.
It is required of all parent volunteers and leaders to complete the Safeguarding Youth Training, renewed each year.
There are additional role-specific trainings that our adult volunteers complete through the Scouting website.
